Ex-Lancaster Mennonite all-stater has transferred to Lancaster Bible College
Camden Hurst, a three-time all-state basketball player at Lancaster Mennonite High School, has transferred from Mansfield University to Lancaster Bible College.
Hurst, who led Mennonite to the 2022 Class AA state championship, averaged 10 minutes and two points per game last season as a true freshman at Division II Mansfield, which went 8-20.
Hurst's playing time was on the rise in the latter part of the season, and he played 25 minutes during the Mounties' game at Millersville February 17.
"We recruited him hard out of high school,'' LBC coach Jon Mack said Tuesday. "There was (scholarship money) involved, and when he decided to go to Mansfield, we wished him the best.
"I think when he played at Millersville, it got him thinking that maybe he wanted to be closer to home.''
Hurst, a 6-3 guard, graduated from Mennonite as the school's all-time leading scorer despite missed the majority of his senior-year games with a hand injury, and missing most of the 2021-22 postseason with a wrist injury.
He averaged 22.7 points as a senior, 24 per the five state tournament games, culminating in a 23-point, 10-rebound performance in Mennonite's 60-44 defeat of Aliquippa in the 2A state final.
Hurst was edged for 2A Player of the Year, as a senior, by Davion Hill of St. John Neumann.
Mansfield went 6-16 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference last year. It's leading scorer and rebounder last season, Saraj Ali, has transferred to Millersville.
LBC went 16-10 last year, 10-2 in the United East Conference.
It returns leading scorer Grant Sareyka (21.2 ppg) and Lancaster Countians Luke Rumbaugh (Conestoga Valley), Ty Erisman (Penn Manor), Daniel King (Linville Hill Christian) and Trey Grube (Manheim Central).
The Chargers open their season Friday at Ramapo in Mahwah, New Jersey.
The home opener is Wednesday vs. Lebanon Valley.
