MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A mass shooter in Memphis who police say killed three people and put the city on lockdown two years ago is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning for a trial date.

Ezekiel Kelly faces 28 charges including three counts of first-degree murder after detectives say he went on a shooting rampage while live-streaming it across social media.

Back in September 2022, Kelly who was 19 years old at the time, shot six people, killing three of them. He was taken into custody after a police chase from Mississippi back into Memphis.

Ezekiel Kelly back in court; attorney says death penalty case 'going to take a while'

Last year, Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy announced that he would be pursuing the death penalty against Kelly if he is found guilty.

Kelly's attorney, Michael Scholl, says there have been some delays with record collections. Scholl also says that dealing with a death penalty case requires a lot of time including looking at juvenile records.

According to reports, those records must be presented in court on Friday.
