Fairport takes down Aquinas, Brighton football remains undefeated

Fairport's defense was the difference in its statement win against Aquinas with a two-point conversion stop and a turnover sealing the deal at the end of the fourth quarter. The win moves the Red Raiders to 3-0 on the season, already matching their win total from 2023.

Fairport scored first in the first quarter with a passing touchdown from Samuel Roselli to Jonathan Roessel. Aquinas responded with a rush from Derrion Battle to bring the score to 7-6.

A pick-six in the second quarter from Bailey Frank put the Red Raiders out front 14-6. After the half, Frank punched in a rushing touchdown to bring the score to 21-6.

Two touchdowns from Aquinas in the fourth quarter put the Li'l Irish back in the game. The first came from Battle on a rush followed by a two-point conversion. The second came on a pass from Trent Buttles to Noah Collins Howard for a 75-yard score.

Trailing 21-20, Aquinas went for two, but coverage by Ryan Nobes stopped Aquinas from taking the lead.

The Fairport win was clinched with a minute remaining as a sack from Joseph Roselli resulted in a fumble and Marques Garrett picked it off for the 21-20 win. Garrett led the defense with six total tackles and a sack.

Fairport (3-0) will travel to Pittsford on Saturday, September 28th. Aquinas (2-1) will host Penfield on the same day.

Brighton 42, Churchville-Chili 21

The Bruins scored on the opening kickoff and never looked back, taking down the Saints on homecoming to move to 3-0 on the season.

Wes Sturrup returned the opening kick 70 yards for a touchdown, the first of five for the Bruins in the first half. Brighton led 14-0 after the first quarter and 35-14 at halftime.

Gavin Parks dominated on the ground, carrying the ball 17 times for 162 yards and four touchdowns. Three of his scores came in the first half.

Grady Hopkin had an efficient day at quarterback, completing eight of his 10 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown, which was a long pass to Clarence Bell. Bell made multiple defenders miss on his way to the end zone.

The Saints scored twice in the second quarter with Luke Munding scoring on a QB sneak. He also had a long touchdown pass to Elijah Burnley. Churchville-Chili's final touchdown came in the fourth quarter.

Brighton (3-0) will visit Gates Chili on Friday, September 27th. Churchville-Chili (1-2) will hit the road to take on Webster Schroeder on the same evening.
