FANNIN COUNTY, Texas (KXII) - Five people were killed on State Highway 121 in a two-vehicle crash on Monday, the victim's family said the pain is unbearable.

Five people were killed on State Highway 121 in a two-vehicle crash when a car tried to pass in a no-passing zone causing a fiery head-on collision.

"Officer says there was a big accident, a bad accident, and I was in shock and all I think is you gotta run and see if that's your sister and grandma and that's what I did," said Cristhian Rodriguez.

While local officials are pushing for safer roads, the family is making funeral arrangements for 20-year-old Danielha Rodriguez, and 64-year-old Maria del Carmen Santiz.

"Our lives changed... this is real, I wish I could tell you that we're living in a nightmare and wake up and say everything is okay and nothing happened..." said Erwin Aju, the step-father of Danielha and son-in-law of Maria.

Rita Maria Lopez is Danielha's mom and Maria's daughter. She knew the two were driving home to Broken Bow, Oklahoma from Wylie Monday afternoon and was tracking their location through an app on her phone.

When the pin stopped moving and she didn't hear from them, the family got in the car and started driving to where it stopped. "The closer we get I saw this red line, but I said 'no I hope it's not,' but when I saw a sign that said 'closed bridge' I started worrying, I said 'oh no no no I hope it's not," said Aju.

A family's worst nightmare. "My heart broke in that moment," said Cristhian. Danielha leaves behind an 11-month-old daughter.

The family plans to lay them to rest in Guatemala and has set up a GoFundMe for assistance with expenses.
