Farmington Hills workplace shooting victim ‘recovering well,’ preliminary exam set for alleged shooter
A preliminary exam is scheduled for a man facing a felony charge for a workplace shooting in Farmington Hills last month.
Da Shawn Marquese Taylor, 21, is charged with assault with dangerous weapon-felonious assault for the Oct. 15 shooting in the parking lot of Specialty Steel Treating Inc. The business is located on Eight Mile Road near Orchard Lake Road.
The victim was shot in the leg and arrived at a hospital in critical condition but is "recovering well," Police Chief Jeff King told The Oakland Press on Nov. 14.
Taylor called 911 to report the incident, police said.
According to King, the case stemmed from an ongoing disagreement between Taylor and the victim, who were coworkers at the businesses. "It was two guys not getting along that escalated into a physical assault and then a shooting," King said.
Taylor's preliminary exam is scheduled for Dec. 4 in 47th District Court, where Judge James Brady will be presented with evidence and determine if there's probable cause for the case to advance to Oakland County Circuit Court for possible trial. Taylor is out of custody on a $10,000 personal bond, which doesn't require cash or surety to be posted.
If convicted, Taylor faces up to four years in prison.
