Disney actress apologizes for wishing no 'peace' on Trump supporters: 'Negative discourse'
Rachel Zegler, the star of Disney's upcoming live action "Snow White" remake, issued an apology Friday after blasting supporters of President-elect Donald Trump.
Zegler took to Instagram following the election to condemn those who voted for Trump in a lengthy post. These individuals, she said, represent a "deep sickness" in the country.
"I find myself speechless in the midst of this," she wrote. "Another four years of hatred, leaning us towards a world I do not want to live in. Leaning us towards a world that will be hard to raise my daughter in."
"There is a deep sickness in this country that is shown in the sheer amount of people who showed up for this man who threatens our democracy," she added. "Get the f- off Elon's app btw. The f- are you doing."
May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace," Zegler concluded. The comments sparked outrage online, causing Zegler to apologize for the remarks.
"I would like to sincerely apologize for the election post I shared on my Instagram last week," she wrote. "I let my emotions get the best of me."
Hatred and anger have caused us to move further and further away from peace and understanding, and I am sorry I contributed to the negative discourse," she added. "I am committed to contributing positively toward a better tomorrow."The outburst is one of several by popular entertainers following Trump's victory. Late night host Jimmy Kimmel appeared to hold back tears while addressing the election on his show last week.
"Those of you who are hate-watching this show right now wanting to watch me suffer, you will be happy to know there was no joy in my life last night," Kimmel said. "I was all over the place."
"Let's be honest, it was a terrible night last night," he added.
Actress Jamie Lee Curtis also urged Americans to "fight" in the wake of the election.
"But what it really means is that we wake up and fight," she wrote in an Instagram post last week. "Fight for women and our children and their futures and fight against tyranny, one day at a time. One fight at a time. One protest at a time. That's what it means to be an American."
