Fetterman blames 'Green dips***s' for flipping Pennsylvania Senate seat

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., on Thursday blamed Green Party voters for helping oust a three-term Democratic senator in his state.

The Associated Press on Thursdaycalled the pivotal Pennsylvania Senate race for Republican candidate Dave McCormick.He leads incumbent Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., by less than a percentage point with 98% of precincts reporting, according to the results.

Sen. Fetterman quickly the Associated Press to hold off on making the call, noting in an X post there were still "tens of thousands of votes" left to be counted across his state.

In a separate less than an hour later, the senator reiterated that every Pennsylvania vote would be counted while knocking a specific group of voters in the state.

"Also, Green dips***s' votes helping elect the GOP," the senator wrote alongside an image showing that 0.9% of Pennsylvania's ballots were cast for Leila Hazou, the Green Party candidate for Senate.

Hazou's support remained at 0.9% midday Friday, while Libertarian Party candidate John Thomas received 1.3% of votes.

Sen. Fetterman received strong backlash for his Green Party criticism, with many accusing the senator of insulting his own constituents.

"Those are your constituents you're denigrating,"Daniel Bocic Martinez, who lost election to California's 31st Congressional District this week, wrote.

"Calling Green voters 'dips***s' is not a great way to win them over," X owner Elon Musk added.

Sen. Fetterman's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The National News Desk (TNND) Friday.Sen. Casey did not concede the race Thursday, saying in a statement he has dedicated his life to "making sure Pennsylvanians' voices are heard, whether on the floor of the Senate or in a free and fair election."

The senator's controversial remark follows President-elect Donald Trump's decisive victory in Pennsylvania this week. Trump holds a lead of 2 percentage points over Vice President Kamala Harris as of midday Friday, according to the Associated Press.

President Joe Biden won Pennsylvania by just over 1% in the 2020 presidential election.

Sen. Fetterman voiced support for Harris throughout much of her 107-day campaign. The senator over the weekend the vice president's commitment to campaigning in Pennsylvania for putting Democrats in a position to "carry" the state.
