LANSDALE — Several area fire companies responded to a fire call on the 300 block of Madison Street behind Main Street in Lansdale on Tuesday.

Responding firefighters found a "minor issue" with a boiler in the basement of the Dresher Arcade building, and said the call was initially reported as a gas odor but no leak was found, only smoke in the basement, according to fire personnel at the scene.

"The upstairs smoke alarms went off, and that's why you have them. Always have your smoke detectors installed, in each bedroom in every level of your house, and practice your fire escape plans," said borough Fire Marshal Rick Lesniak.

No firefighters or tenants or workers in the building were hurt, and Madison Street was closed for roughly an hour after the call was dispatched just before noon Tuesday. Fire companies that assisted the Fairmount Fire Company of Lansdale at the scene included the Colmar, Hatfield, Towamencin and Upper Gwynedd fire companies, along with VMSC — Emergency Medical Services.

Due to prolonged dry conditions, Lansdale borough issued a burn ban last week , asking residents to not have any open flame including campfire, fire pits or other "open flames in both public and private outdoor spaces" while the potential for fire spread is extremely high.
