Firefighters rescue dog from burning home in Battle Creek

BATTLE CREEK, MI – A home caught fire in Battle Creek after candles were left burning unattended, officials said.

Battle Creek firefighters initially responded to a 4:50 a.m. report of a structure fire Sunday, Nov. 17, at 21 Grand Boulevard.

Upon arrival, fire crews found the homeowner outside who reported a fire in a second-floor bedroom. The man also said his dog was still inside.

Firefighters entered the home, located the dog and successfully removed it from the home. Crews got the fire under control and kept it contained to the upstairs.

No injuries were reported. However, officials estimate about $15,000 in property damage and another $5,000 in content damage.

The cause of the fire was determined to be unattended candles left burning.
