First Student reaches agreement with bus drivers union

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — First Student and the union representing bus drivers in Warwick and Jamestown have made a deal and approved a new contract.

"First Student is pleased to have reached a new contract agreement with the union that underscores our commitment to the success and well-being of our employees," Frank McMahon, spokesperson for First Student, said. "We look forward to focusing fully again on what we do best, providing safe and reliable transportation services to the communities we serve."

The union voted in favor of the new contract on Friday night, First Student announced on Saturday.

Both parties were negotiating since this spring, but conversations were at a stalemate during the summer.

According to First Student, the new deal improves upon healthcare benefits, wages and retirement contributions.
