First widespread snow heading toward Lower Michigan

V.Lee3 months ago
We have our first widespread system snow that will move through Lower Michigan Sunday and Sunday night. It won’t be a big snow for the southeast half of Lower Michigan, but the first significant snow for the northwest half.

Here’s the radar forecast from midnight tonight to 8 p.m. Sunday. It’s pretty clear to see the coming snow brings flakes to all of us in Lower Michigan.

The snow starts over northwest Lower Michigan in the middle of the night tonight. Ludington, Cadillac, Traverse City will get the light snow overnight. The snow will spread southeast Sunday morning and be in Grand Rapids, Lansing and the Saginaw area. The snow will make it into far southeast Michigan and Ann Arbor and Detroit by early Sunday afternoon.

It’s a light snow for the southeast half of Lower Michigan with an inch or so of snow by Sunday evening. So by Michigan standards it’s not a big snow.

It’s a little different for the northwest half of Lower Michigan. I’d call it a two to four inch snow by Sunday night.

Here’s the total snowfall through Sunday night.

Roads will probably be cold enough for snow to stick on the surface. While it may not be a big snow for many of us, it will be the first slick driving.
