Five local school projects to receive total of $3.3 million in state grants
The Commonwealth Financing Authority recently awarded $3.3 million in state grants to five school projects in Cumberland County.
In late October, Gov. Josh Shapiro announced the authority had approved 208 investments totaling $175 million under the new Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program that was created by the 2023-24 budget.
The program provides grants of up to $5 million to public school districts and career and technical schools for safety and environmental repair projects.
The five projects and grant amounts for Cumberland County are:
• $1 million to the South Middleton School District for window replacement and connectivity upgrades at Boiling Springs High School.
• $1 million to the Mechanicsburg Area School District to upgrade the HVAC system at its middle school.
• $500,000 to Carlisle Area School District to replace windows and HVAC systems at Carlisle High School.
• $500,000 to East Pennsboro Area School District for roof replacement at its high school.
• $330,000 to the Cumberland Perry Area Career & Technical Center to upgrade the building's HVAC system.
"Our students deserve safe and healthy schools to learn in, and our teachers deserve modern and well-maintained classrooms to teach in," Shapiro said in a press release. "When I took office, I worked to bring Democrats and Republicans together to invest in our kids and their future."
