Question: Forty-four years ago today, only 17 days before the election that made him the 40th U.S. president, Ronald Reagan and wife, Nancy, were in Bloomington-Normal as grand marshals of the Illinois State University Homecoming Parade. Can you name the theme of that campaign, as witnessed in the dozens of signs being waved and T-shirts being worn by thousands of cheering residents along the parade route up Main Street?
Answer: The Reagan slogan of 1980: "Let's Make America Great Again," obviously being used again by Donald Trump, the Republican candidate today. (Thanks to Bill Kemp, librarian at the McLean County Museum of History.)
