Question: The ever-popular high-end department store Von Maur is a longtime anchor of the Shoppes at College Hills in Normal, formerly College Hills Mall. But it's only been a store there since 1990. Do you know what store occupied that space before Von Maur?

Answer: It was a Carson Pirie Scott & Co., a St. Louis-based store. Another St. Louis-based store, Famous Barr, was once at Eastland Mall. Both Carson's and Famous Barr have gone out of business nationally as well.
