Friday's high school football roundup: Pulaski County scores 63 points to earn 1st win

Trevor Gallimore and Bryant Nottingham combined for 389 yards and seven touchdowns as Pulaski County scored 49 unanswered points to beat Blacksburg 63-19 in Dublin and pick up its first win of the season.

Gallimore collected 161 yards and four touchdowns on 26 carries for the Cougars (1-6), while Nottingham tallied 135 yards and two scores on just three carries, adding 93 yards through the air on 3-of-5 passing with a 40-yard strike to Caleb Cregger. Savion Thompson had a 20-yard fumble return touchdown. Pulaski County finished with 452 rushing yards.

Jaxon Keys ran for 179 yards on 20 carries with a touchdown for the Bruins (3-4). Sam Szefc completed 8 of 12 passes for 161 yards with two scores, including an 83-yard strike to Nate Means, who notched four catches for 100 yards.

Lord Botetourt 21, William Byrd 13

The Cavaliers scored 14 straight points to beat the Terriers in Daleville and avenge last year's Region 3D semifinal loss.

Lord Botetourt (6-1) has won six in a row.

Jerrett Shepherd scored both touchdowns for William Byrd (5-2), losers of two straight after starting the season 5-0, and tallied 58 yards on 12 carries. Gray Matthews added 74 yards on six carries.

William Fleming 34, Northside 0

The Colonels posted their fourth shutout of the season and remained undefeated with a Blue Ridge District win over the Vikings.

Malachi Coleman rushed for 256 yards on 18 carries and scored twice for William Fleming (7-0), while Davion Faulkner added two scores on the ground and Jycer Preston thew a touchdown pass to Omarza Gray and ended with 105 yards on 8-of-12 passing. K-Ron Furguson had four catches for 69 yards. Tyshawn Henderson had a sack and a forced fumble on defense.

Northside (4-3) has lost three of its last four.

Patrick Henry 49, Cave Spring 7

The Patriots earned a River Ridge District win over the Knights at Bogle Stadium.

Patrick Henry (4-3) has won two straight after starting 2-3.

Drew Browning scored on a 4-yard run to tally the only points of the evening for Cave Spring (2-6).

Christiansburg 56, Hidden Valley 0

Matt Annis ran for 132 yards and scored two touchdowns on 10 carries as the Blue Demons blanked the Titans.

Izaiah Cotto completed all three of his passes for 105 yards for Christiansburg (5-3), connecting with Donovan Richardson and Jacob Evans for touchdowns. Xavier Joplin Josiah Ratley, Chandler Webb and Sean McMurray added rushing scores.

Japhon English completed 4 of 17 passes for 17 yards with two interceptions for Hidden Valley (0-7), which was shut out for the fifth time this season. The Titans were held to just 60 yards of offense.

Franklin County 10, Staunton River 0

The Eagles earned a Blue Ridge District win over the Golden Eagles with a shutout victory in Rocky Mount.

Daelyn Muse scored on a 2-yard run and Corbin Palmer kicked a 17-yard field goal to round out the scoring for Franklin County (2-5), which snapped a five-game losing streak. Winston Davenport completed 5 of 9 passes for 44 yards, while Rashaun Hughey ran for 79 yards on 29 carries.

Grayson Sheet picked up 62 yards on four receptions for Staunton River (3-4), which was shut out for the second straight week. Patrick Chewning completed 5 of 15 passes for 62 yards and ran for 34 yards on 14 carries, and Brady Barns added 22 yards on 10 carries.

North Cross 43, Covenant Day (N.C.) 7

Jaziel Hart racked up five touchdowns as the Raiders rolled over the Lions in Matthews, North Carolina.

Hart tallied three rushing touchdowns, one receiving touchdown and an interception return touchdown on defense for North Cross (6-1), winner of five straight. Jase Rhodes returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown.

Roanoke Catholic 21, Virginia Spartans 6

Kaleb Hustead had four and a half sacks and recovered a fumble as the Celtics topped Roanoke's homeschool team.

Hustead totaled 14 tackles for Roanoke Catholic (4-3) and converted three PATs. Yajae Harrison scored three touchdowns on the ground and finished with 142 yards on 17 carries. Damarcus Brown added 76 yards on three carries.

Virginia Spartans fell to 0-6 on the year.

Jefferson Forest 27, E.C. Glass 0

The Cavaliers shut out the Hilltoppers for the second straight Black and Blue Bowl in Forest.

Cameron McClendon caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Dylan Marks for Jefferson Forest (6-1) and kicked field goals of 42 and 41 yards. Marks added a 5-yard touchdown run and tallied 30 yards on five carries, completing both of his passes. Damon Trent recorded a 30-yard punt block return touchdown.

Alleghany 34, Glenvar 7

Des Jordan scored four touchdowns as the Cougars knocked off the Highlanders in a Three Rivers District battle of undefeated teams.

Jordan finished 17-of-20 passing for 252 yards with two touchdowns for Alleghany (7-0), adding 30 yards and another two scores on the ground on seven carries. Xzavier Haylett caught a touchdown pass and earned 92 yards on five receptions, and Carter Nicely rushed for 167 yards and a score on 29 carries.

Dawyot completed 6 of 22 passes for 67 yards for Glenvar (6-1) with a 22-yard scoring strike to Jace Forster. Dawyot added 41 rushing yards on five carries.

Radford 28, Patrick County 14

JD Grubb and Luke Woodard both had interception return touchdowns as the Bobcats topped the Cougars.

Grubb's return went for 88 yards and Woodard's went for 55. Luke Gaither threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Sincere Taylor and finished 16-of-21 for 154 yards for Radford (5-3), and Matthew McGuire had 2-yard scoring run. Josh Porter also blocked a field goal on defense.

Avonne Kidd scored both touchdowns for Patrick County (3-5), which has lost four straight, and ended with 57 yards on 19 carries. Easton Harris ran for 114 yards on 22 carries.

Floyd County 31, Carroll County 6

The Buffaloes nabbed their sixth straight win over the Cavaliers with a Three Rivers District victory in Hillsville.

Floyd County (5-3) scored 24 straight points to open the contest.

Bryce Smoot threw a 57-yard touchdown pass to Mason Crockett for Carroll County (5-3).

Magna Vista 42, Martinsville 0

Ethan Dukes ran for 183 yards on 20 carries and scored three touchdowns as the Warriors stifled the Bulldogs.

Simeon Moore added two rushing scored for Magna Vista (5-2) and finished with 43 yards on seven carries, adding 97 yards through the air on 8-of-12 passing.

Da'Veono Lowe completed 6 of 13 passes for Martinsville (3-5) for 48 yards. Cayden Walker collected 41 yards on three catches. The Bulldogs ended with minus 9 yards on the ground.

George Washington 31, Bassett 21

Trailing 31-0, the Bengals scored three touchdowns in the last half of the fourth quarter but couldn't complete a comeback in a loss to the Eagles.

David Cook threw three touchdown passes for Bassett (4-4), connecting with Ja'Varus Faulkner on a 69-yard strike, with Jakyari Menefee on a 16-yard completion and Keelan Price-Kent on a 40-yard toss. The Bengals successfully recovered two onside kicks in the fourth quarter.

Bath County 62, Eastern Montgomery 0

Wyatt Campbell collected five touchdowns, including three in the first quarter, as the Chargers walloped the Mustangs in Hot Springs.

Campbell ran for 180 yards and three touchdowns on just four carries, threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Braiden Mabe and finished with 41 yards on 4-of-6 passing and returned an interception 45 yards to the end zone. Ethan Bryant added 71 rushing yards and a score on seven carries for Bath County (6-0), and had an interception and fumble recovery on defense. Isaac Phillips notched 14 tackles, two of which went for loss, and a pick.

Eastern Montgomery dropped to 0-7 on the year.

Honaker 40, Narrows 35

The Tigers scored a go-ahead touchdown with 4:34 remaining and intercepted a pass in the end zone to seal a win over the Green Waves.

Cooper Helvey ran for 116 yards on 19 carries and scored two touchdowns for Narrows (3-2), while Colby Livingston added three scores and 70 yards on eight carries. Tucker Bryan completed 14 of 27 passes for 201 yards, finding Elijah Knoetze five times for 59 yards.

Rural Retreat 19, Chilhowie 14

The Warriors made it a one-possession game in the fourth quarter but the Indians held on to earn a Hogoheegee District win.

Austin Umberger scored an 8-yard rushing touchdown, ending with 55 yards on 10 carries, and caught a 39-yard touchdown pass from Chaz Penwright to lead Rural Retreat (4-3). Penwright completed 2 of 5 passes for 51 yards and ran for 71 yards on 14 carries, and Anderson Newberry had a 34-yard rushing TD, tallying 56 yards on four carries. Trevor Shelton had two interceptions on defense.

Asher Chapman had a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown for Chilhowie (3-4), completing 12 of 22 passes for 110 yards with two picks. Noah Hill collected 84 yards on eight receptions.

Liberty Christian 55, Liberty 6

The Minutemen dropped their 34th straight game with a loss to the Bulldogs in Lynchburg.

Liberty (0-7) got its only points of the evening on a touchdown pass from Michael Davison to Aiden Cottrell.

Bluefield (W.Va.) 21, Grayson County 8

The Blue Devils scored first but couldn't muster any more points and fell to the Beavers in West Virginia.

Grayson County (4-3) got on the board in the second quarter on a 33-yard touchdown pass from Maverik Goad to brother Mac Goad. Maverik Goad also found Makray Goad for the two-point conversion.
