Oct. 16—October 16, 2014 — After a year of construction, a Country Inn and Suites connected to the Sanford Center officially opened with the Bemidji Blue Ox Marathon happening just feet away. The hotel features 121 rooms and is attached to the event center through an adjoining Cowboy Jacks restaurant, which has yet to open.

October 16, 1999 — Bemidji School District negotiators have reached a tentative agreement with the Bemidji Education Association for 1999-2001 teacher contracts. The salary scale begins at $25,482 and goes up to $51,731. Other items included increased pay to teachers who work during their prep time and $50 more for retiree insurance.

October 16, 1974 — A six-month burglary spree which the Bemidji Police Department estimates accumulated thousands of dollars of stolen goods may have ended after officers apprehended three juveniles in connection with the case. The three teenagers were pulled over at 3 a.m. after officers found them driving a stolen car.

October 16, 1924 — The Pioneer scored a beat on other papers by carrying the full account of the twelve-inning World Series game that decided the title. Most of the Twin Cities papers went to press with their mail edition before the game was over, when the score stood at 3 to 1 in favor of New York. Washington won the game 4-3.
