Fuel tanker explosion prompts evacuations in downtown Gallup area, police say
GALLUP, N.M. (KRQE) – Part of the downtown Gallup area was evacuated Tuesday morning due to a "potential explosion and fire," the Gallup Police Department announced on Facebook.
New Mexico State Police said they responded to the rail yards at 603 Roundhouse Road around 10 a.m. in reference to a CMV fuel tanker that exploded. The driver was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries, and the fire has been contained, NMSP said.

Gallup Police said Highway 66 at 2nd and 3rd Streets and Maloney at 2nd and 3rd Streets are closed. This area has also been evacuated for safety reasons.
Officials are asking that the public avoid the area.
