Fundraiser to support survivors of sexual assault Wednesday in Johnston
JOHNSTON, Iowa — A non-profit organization is raising money to help survivors of sexual assault with an event in Johnston this week.
The sexual assault forensic exam or (S.A.F.E.) center provides care and a safe space to sexual assault victims.

Currently, the center provides specific training to those who handle these situations, including medical professionals, advocates, and law enforcement.
"Depending on where they are there may or may not be somebody trained, specially trained, to provide services for them. And most people just don't know the services available, or they're worried about charges. Or just, we know the ERs are overwhelmed, it's long wait times. And the center would provide a place they can go directly and kind of avoid all of, all of that," said Renee Aragon, SANE-P(Certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner-Pediatric).
The center's upcoming event, Sparkle in the Yard, is raising money to start its services. The event is being held at The Cork 50121 in Johnston on Wednesday, November 13th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be vendors and a raffle. You can learn more about the event and the SAFE Center here .
