'Golden Bachelor' Star Theresa Nist, 71, Reveals New Reason Behind Gerry Turner Divorce
Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner's marriage may have been doomed from the start.
The Golden Bachelor star, 71, reflected on her short-lived romance during the Tuesday, November 5 episode of Ben Higgins and Ashley Iaconetti's podcast, Almost Famous ,and admitted that a few factors caused her split from Turner, 72.
When asked if distance was to blame for her divorce , Nist confessed, "You really can't know somebody in four weeks. I'll just say that."
"I don't wanna say any more than that," she added while noting that it was "not just the location thing."
The New Jersey native tied the knot with Turner in January, but they announced their split just three months later in April. At the time, they cited their respective locations for the breakup as Turner lives in Indiana and they could not choose a place to live as they both wanted to remain close to their families.
She revealed on the podcast that they intended to find a home near Charleston, South Carolina and were "looking at homes virtually" while they were in their respective states. While the duo "never got to the point where [they] found a home," Turner allegedly "came up with the idea of doing six weeks there and six weeks here."
Nist said that she "truly wanted to have our home together," admitting, "I was willing to move. I wanted to have our big home where our family could come visit us. That was my idea because that's what we had agreed upon."
"And then I guess, he loves his house and I don't blame him," she continued. "He loves where he lives and... I want him to be happy."
Still, she claimed that the plan "did change" to something that "wasn't what we had discussed. We had never discussed six weeks here, six weeks there."
Nist also shared some insight into their relationship by sharing the story of a disagreement that they had during one of her trips to Indiana.
"So we're driving from the airport and it was like three hours and we're getting closer to Gerry's house," she detailed. "So I see this open land — I don't see crops, I just think it's flat land — and I go, 'Oh wow, you could build townhomes there!' That's all I said. And Gerry said, 'Oh, so you wanna take the farmer's land away from him?' I go, 'Note to self, don't say that again.'"
Turner and Nist settled their divorce in June 2024.
