Governor Tim Walz taking in U of M football ahead of Tuesday's debate

Minnesota Governor and Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz is taking in some football before next week's debate with Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance , MPR reports .

Walz is spending Saturday afternoon at the game between Michigan and the Gophers in Ann Arbor, Mich.

In the end, the Gophers were defeated 27-24 in controversial circumstances, with a late offsides call going against Minnesota. We suspect Walz didn't raise too many complaints however, lest he alienate any Wolverines fans too close to election time.

It was not all recreation. Walz met with voters on the college campus, undoubtedly playing up his tenure as a football coach while discussing the campaign with students.

Both Walz and Vice President Kamala Harris have made frequent visits to Michigan, considered a battleground state for November's election. Walz's visits have included a trip to Michigan State University, appearing to focus on young voters in a state that saw the highest youth voter turnout of any state in 2022, per MPR News.

On Tuesday, Walz and Vance will meet in New York for a debate hosted by CBS News at 8 p.m. CT. The debate will be moderated by CBS Evening News anchor Norah O'Donnell and Face the Nation moderator Margaret Brennan.
