Firefighters from Gretna and other area communities put out a field fire Sunday on land belonging to Vala's Pumpkin Patch and Apple Orchard.

A brush fire at the pumpkin patch at 12102 S. 180th St. was reported at 1:52 p.m., according to a Sarpy County 911 dispatcher. Firefighters had the fire contained and were battling hot spots shortly after 3 p.m.

Alina Macias, director of safety and attractions at the pumpkin patch, said the fire occurred on agricultural property belonging to Vala's. The fire could be seen for a long distance as smoke rolled across Interstate 80.

"There were no issues for our guests," Macias said. "If there was anyone in the vicinity (of the fire), we were able to move them away."

Several fire departments responded to the scene, including Papillion, Springfield and Bellevue. The Omaha Fire Department sent a tanker truck of water.

A member of the Papillion Fire Department said all of department's units had been released from the scene before 3:30 p.m. No injuries were immediately reported.

A woman who answered the phone at the pumpkin patch said she couldn't comment other than to say the business was open for business.
