Always a source of laughs no matter the role, veteran comedy actor Joe Flaherty has passed away at the age of 82.

The news was first made public by actor Joel Murray, who "We've lost another of my idols. RIP Joe Flaherty 1941-2024."

Flaherty is best known for his turn as paternal figure Harold Weird on the cult-classic TV series "Freaks and Geeks," as well as his supporting part as the obnoxious heckler in Adam Sandler's golf comedy classic "Happy Gilmore."

Flaherty was born in Pittsburgh and served in the US Air Force before shifting to an acting career, moving to Chicago and joining the Second City Theater Company.

Becoming a major part of the group, Flaherty went on to star in the company's sketch television show SCTV, launching his screen career.

He would also go on to appear in hit films like "Back to the Future: Part II," "Anchorman" and "Slackers" while also having guest appearances on "Frasier," "The King of Queens," "Family Guy" and "Even Stevens."
