Harold "Kay" Sawyer

September 11, 1936 - September 24, 2024

CENTRAL CITY - Harold "Kay" Sawyer, 88 of rural Central City was ushered into his Savior's loving arms Friday, September 20, 2024 at Merrick Medical Center.

Celebration of life service will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at the Berean Bible Church in Grand Island. Son-in-law, Pastor Jim Reynolds, will officiate. There will be a private family burial following.

Family will be greeting friends an hour before service time. Memorials are suggested to either Gideon Bible or Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.

Kay was born on September 11, 1936 on a family farm in Rock County, NE, the son of Ralph and Mary (Vore) Sawyer. He graduated from North Loup High School. In high school he was active with music and basketball. He went on to receive degrees from Grace College of the Bible, Kearney State College, Hastings College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

He met the love of his life at Grace, where they were both members of a music group, and he and Della Dick were united in marriage on July 27, 1957. Together they have celebrated 67 years of marriage, being guided by a love for the Lord and a love for their family.

Kay helped start Nebraska Christion School, where he taught music, choir, band and filled many other roles in his 30-year tenure. His role of repairing things there led him to get his Master Electrician license, which turned into another business for him. He owned and operated Sawyer's Service for many years. Later in life, Kay was a financial representative for 25 years for Ozark National Life. He was a founding member of the Community Bible Church in Central City.

Kay and Della lovingly raised five children, instilling in them their faith, along with a legacy of love of hymns. Music was always an important part of their home. Kay impacted many lives besides his family, and he lived daily to show Jesus' love to all he came in contact with. He loved learning and studied the Bible his entire life, sharing his deep knowledge with others. He was a hard worker and did much of the work building the home he and Della were living in.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Della; their children, Mary (Mike) Adams, Duane (Kate) Sawyer, Jane (Todd) Anania, Sheryl (Greg) VanderVorst and Becky (Jim) Reynolds; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and a sister, Carol (Gary) Squier.

He is preceded in death by an infant son, James Allen Sawyer; his parents and his siblings, Kenneth Sawyer, Linda Shoemaker and Glenn Sawyer.
