HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — Applications for assistance with home repair are now available for Harrisburg residents who need to make household improvements.

The application deadline was extended to July 15, 2024, at 3 p.m. Applications can be downloaded from the city's Homeowner Occupied Improvement Program website .

The applications can help those who need essential property issues fixed, including roofing, electrical issues, HVAC, and plumbing. The property must be located inside the City of Harrisburg, as funds are only available to Harrisburg homeowners.

"When my administration asked our citizens what they needed most coming out of the [COVID-19] pandemic, an overwhelming number of people said help with home repairs," said Mayor Wanda R.D. Williams, who made $5 million available for homeowner repair projects from the city's allotment of federal American Rescue Plan money. "Many people didn't feel comfortable having workers in their homes. Now that we are a few years past COVID, we are hoping to provide some much-needed assistance to families in Harrisburg who need it most."

A maximum of $30,000 is available per home. To be eligible, federal income guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development must be met. Families, depending on size, may not make above the combined incomes listed below, as set forth by the federal government.
