4 Bloomington-Normal-area students awarded in SkillsUSA competition
BLOOMINGTON — Four Bloomington-Normal-area students were recognized at the 2024 SkillsUSA Championships held in Atlanta, Georgia, June 26-27.
Bloomington Area Career Center students Jayla Westhoff, Tiernan Orr and Brynn Hoder, and Heartland Community College student Tallon Short, were awarded at the event.
Westhoff received a skill point certificate in cosmetology, Orr received a skill point certificate in technical computer applications, Short received a skill point certificate in T-shirt design and Hoder received the high school silver medal in pin design.
More than 6,000 students from throughout the U.S. participated in this year's competition, according to a news release. The event is held each year for students in middle school, high school or college/postsecondary programs as part of the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference.
Students demonstrated various technical, workplace and personal skills in 115 competitions, including robotics, automotive technology, drafting, criminal justice, aviation, maintenance and public speaking.
