LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — In order to get locally grown fruits and vegetables to those who need them in the Las Vegas valley, the Southern Nevada Health District is hosting pop-up produce stands in October and November.

In 2022, 12.8 percent of households in the United States experienced food insecurity, meaning they are unable to access or afford enough nutritious food, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. SNHD said that approximately 330,757 people in Clark County are food insecure.

The pop-up stands aim to help give people increased access to affordable, locally grown, organic fresh fruits and vegetables.

The first pop-up stand is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 1. Customers can use SNAP/EBT cards, cash, debit, or credit cards.

They will all be held at the Bonneville Transit Center, located at 101 E. Bonneville Avenue in downtown Las Vegas, from noon to 3 p.m. or while supplies last. The pop-up stands will be held on:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 1

  • Tuesday, Oct. 8

  • Tuesday, Nov. 5

  • Tuesday, Nov. 12

  • Recipe cards, nutrition education, and other health resources will be available at the popups.

So far this year, there have been eight pop-up stands at the Bonneville Transit Center. The spring 2024 pop-ups resulted in nearly 1, 425 pounds of produce sold.
