Oct. 14—DANVILLE — The Hess Recreation Area access road will close for construction Tuesday and is expected to remain closed for several days, according to the Montour County Recreation Commission.

The commission will close the main road gate at 6 a.m. Tuesday making the roadway and access to the main parking lot unavailable for park visitors, according to the commission.

The Meadow Lane parking area and the Beaver Place Trailhead parking area, as well as all park trails and restroom facilities, will remain available for use, the commission said.

Work performed this week is expected to be the last of the year with the project resuming and concluding in the spring, commission officials said.

This week's work is the third phase of a full conversion of the roadway following a failed chip and tar surface installed in 2011 to a driving surface aggregate-surfaced roadway, according to the commission.

This project is funded by a grant from the Montour County Conservation District's Dirt, Gravel and Low-Volume Road program, administered by the Borough of Danville, with matching support by the Montour Area Recreation Commission, the commission said.
