HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: PCS, Elba win shootouts; Enterprise falls to No. 1 Central-Phenix City

Providence Christian quarterback Craig Pittman rushed for three touchdowns and threw for two, Tyler Sharp rushed for two scores and the Eagles contained Geneva County running back sensation Brendan Hall during a 56-30 win at the PCS campus.

The Class 2A, Region 2 win pushes PCS to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in region play. Geneva County fell to 3-2, 1-2.

Providence Christian held Hall, who came in averaging 295 rushing yards and 4.7 touchdowns a game, to just 104 yards and one TD on 26 carries.

The Eagles raced to a quick 14-0 lead on a Pittman 24-yard touchdown pass to Christian Sutton and a Pittman 15-yard TD run. The extra point failed after the first score, but Sharp scored on a two-point conversion after the second.

Geneva County scored a 27-yard Caden Hutchins to Jamarion Williams pass and a two-point conversion, cutting it to 14-8.

PCS scored twice early in the second quarter to build a 28-8 advantage. Pittman scored on a 34-yard run to cap the first series and Sharp scored on a 4-yard run on the other. The point after kick failed after the first score and Calvin McClintock scored on a two-point conversion after the second.

The Bulldogs scored on a 44-yard Hutchins to James Wright touchdown pass, but the two-point try failed, and PCS answered with a 4-yard scoring run by McClintock and a two-point conversion by Sharp, making it 36-14 at halftime.

After stopping Geneva County on 4th-and-8 at the PCS 34 to open the second half, the Eagles quickly scored on a two-play drive with Pittman throwing a 60-yard touchdown pass to Parker Hall. The try for two failed.

Hutchins scored on an 11-yard for Geneva Conty and the Dawgs added a two-point conversion to close the gap, but the Eagles scored on another two-play drive with Pittman racing 44 yards for a touchdown. McClintock ran in the two-point conversion, making it 50-22, which is where it stood after three quarters.

Both teams scored once in the final period – Providence on an 8-yard Sharp TD run and Geneva County on a 40-yard TD run by Hall.

In addition to Hall's 104 yards, Hutchins rushed for 59 yards on nine carries. He also completed 2-of-5 passes for 71 yards with both completions going for touchdowns.

Defensive leaders for Geneva County were Jaxon Fetzer and Earl Rodgers with 10 tackles each, including five solos each. Bruce Sconiers had seven tackles, including five solos, and also blocked an extra-point kick.

Central-Phenix City 34, Enterprise 21: Enterprise led 14-13 at halftime over Class 7A, No. 1-ranked Central of Phenix City, but the Red Devils rebounded in the second half to take a 34-21 victory.

Central, the defending Class 7A state champion, improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in region. Enterprise, which entered ranked sixth in the state, fell to 3-2 and 1-2.

Central went on top midway through the first quarter when Tristan Williams scored on a 4-yard run, but the PAT was missed.

Enterprise took the lead when Eric Winters scored from 12 yards out and Jose Rocha kicked through the extra point to make it 7-6 with 1:24 left in the opening quarter.

The Wildcats extended their lead with 5:28 to play in the second quarter when Mason Burkhardt connected with Andrew Purcell on a 27-yard touchdown throw.

Central pulled within 14-13 late in the second quarter when Andrew Alford threw a 6-yard touchdown pass.

Williams opened the scoring in the second half on a 12-yard run to make it 20-14 and the Red Devils made it 27-14 on a 19-yard pass from Alford in the third quarter.

Enterprise got back on the scoreboard on a 24-yard touchdown pass from Burkhardt to Peter Edwards with 5:34 left in the game. Rocha's PAT made it 27-21.

But Central put it away with 1:45 left when Williams completed a 6-play, 83-yard drive with a 6-yard touchdown run.

Central compiled 452 yards of total offense, while Enterprise had 260.

Elba 57, Brantley 53: Elba's Alvin Henderson scored on a 1-yard run with 37 seconds left to give Elba a 57-53 win over Brantley in a back-and-fourth battle of state ranked Class 1A teams.

Elba, ranked No. 7 in the state, improved to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in 1A, Region 2, while Brantley, ranked No. 3 entering the game, fell to 3-1 and 2-1.

The game featured nine changes, the last coming on Henderson's go-ahead touchdown which was capped by a 99-yard drive after the Tigers recovered a Bulldog fumble.

The Tigers overcame a nine-point deficit (53-44) in the final nine minutes as Henderson scored on an 86 run and Elba converted the point after kick with seven minutes to go.

Brantley led 20-15 at the quarter break, 33-29 at halftime and 47-44 going to the fourth quarter.

Henderson, the Auburn commit, had another big night, rushing for 319 yards and five touchdowns on 25 carries and added a 72-yard kickoff return for a touchdown plus a two-point conversion. After being held to 65 yards in the first half, he erupted for 254 yards and four touchdowns in 13 carries in the second half.

His touchdown runs covered 7, 28, 38, 86 yards before his game-winning 1-yard TD run.

Cayden Atkins earned 157 yards rushing on 20 carries with TD runs of 52 and 21 yards.

The Elba defense earned three turnovers in the game – two interceptions and a fumble recovery – and also recorded a safety.

Brantley quarterback Jayden Parks completed 17-of-27 for 400 yards with six touchdowns with Dylan Davis with six catches for 120 yards and two TDs and Tyler Carter with five receptions for 130 yards and two touchdowns. Cooper Layton had five receptions for 150 yards and two TDs.

Defensively, Jon Harper Kilcrease had 13 tackles and Nathan Pruitt 10 tackles.

Highland Home 53, Goshen 21: The 2A No. 8 Goshen Eagles led No. 2 Highland Home 21-19 at halftime, but the Flying Squadron soared in the second half, outscoring Goshen 34-0 to earn the win.

Highland Home improves to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in 2A, Region 3 play, while Goshen fell to 3-1 and 2-1.

Jayden McNabb rushed for two touchdowns and Szemerick Andrews added one rushing touchdown to help the Eagles to the halftime lead.

Montgomery Academy 41, Northside Methodist 16: The Knights scored a season-high in a 41-16 loss at Montgomery Academy.

John Michael Mordecai threw for 173 yards off 20-of-45 attempts, including a touchdown pass to Gunnar Jacobsen, who caught three passes for 96 yards. Kingston Whaley added a rushing touchdown and the Knights' Jordan Sanford had a tackle in the end zone for a safety. Fitz Carter hit both extra-point kicks.

Sanford had 10 tackles and Coleman Fullbright nine tackles. Whaley added an interception.

Wetumpka 34, Rehobeth 19: The Rebels trailed just 27-19 late before Wetumpka scored with four minutes to go to put away the Class 6A, Region 2 game in Wetumpka.

Two key turnovers hurt Rehobeth (2-2, 1-2) as the Indians (2-3, 1-2) scored off an interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter and a fumble return in the second quarter, leaving the Rebels down 20-13 at halftime.

Cole Joyner had two short rushing touchdowns for Rehobeth and Patrick Banda added a short-yardage TD.

Cottonwood 48, Samson 7: No. 4-ranked Cottonwood remained unbeaten (5-0 overall, 3-0 region) as King Campbell rushed for 104 yards on eight carries with four touchdowns to spark the Class 2A, Region 2 win.

Campbell scored on a 5-yard run to open the scoring in the opening quarter. Klete Meadows scored on an 8-yard run and Campbell ran in the 2-point try to make it 14-0.

With 1:50 to play in the opening quarter, Campbell scored on a 37-yard run. The Bears made it 30-0 when Braylon Morris connected with Trevor Tillman on a 17-yard TD strike.

Tillman returned a punt 50 yards for a touchdown to make it 36-0 midway through the second quarter. Campbell went in from 10 yards out to make it 42-0 at halftime.

Late in the third quarter, Campbell scored on a 51-yard run to make it 48-0 before Samson added its late score.

Defensively for Cottonwood, Ty Booker had nine tackles, while Kade Strength, Blaine Harp and Aly Baker each had six. Kain Campbell added four tackles.

For Samson (0-4, 0-3), Kevin Hornsby had 66 rushing and Brodie Mock threw for 63 with a touchdown pass to Kelin Hornsby, who had 40 yards in receptions. Abraham Vazquez had 6 tackles and Tyler Lamb had 5.

Ariton 41, G.W. Long 18: Wells Ganey rushed for 170 yards on 27 carries with two touchdowns in leading the Purple Cats' rushing attack. Ganey also had a 10-yard touchdown catch.

Ariton (3-1, 3-0 in Class 2A, Region 2) compiled 440 yards of total offense, 360 coming on the ground.

Jayden Caple had 74 yards rushing on four carries with one touchdown and Tristan Silavent had 66 yards rushing on 11 carries with two touchdowns.

Addison Senn was 5-of-9 passing for 80 yards. Brody Joyce had two catches for 52 yards.

For G.W. Long (2-3, 2-1), Preston Williams scored on runs of 15 yards and 1 yard and Blayne Wood added another rushing touchdown.

Williams rushed for 82 yards on 15 carries and threw for 64 yards on 4-of-12 passing. Cameron Richardson caught three passes for 55 yards.

Defensively for the Rebels, Marvin McLeod was in on 18 tackles, including 12 solos.

Pike County 19, Ashford 6: Three second half touchdowns from Pike County's Braylin Jackson helped the Bulldogs rally from a halftime deficit to defeat Ashford Friday in Brundidge.

A Braylon Bigham 4-yard touchdown run late in the first half gave Ashford a 6-0 lead. The Jackets had the ball inside the Bulldog 5-yard line with one minute left to go in the half but failed to score.

Jackson scored on a 7-yard run late in the third quarter to make it 7-6. A punt miscue by Ashford set up the Bulldogs two minutes later and Jackson added a 2-yard score to make it 13-6.

Jackson put the game away in the fourth quarter with a 45-yard punt return for the final score.

Eufaula 41, Carroll 7: Ty McCoy threw for 176 yards and four touchdowns and Jaylin Wright was 3-of-3 passing for 45 yards and two touchdowns in leading Eufaula's Class 5A, Region 2 win over Carroll.

Zachai Steele caught six passes for 128 yards and four touchdowns, Atorian Slaughter had four receptions for 32 yards with one TD and Zy'Querrius Devose had three catches for 40 yards and one TD.

Slaughter also had 78 yards rushing on six carries and Wright 60 yards on eight carries.

For Carroll (0-5, 0-2), Kezalin Miles scored on a 5-yard run in the third quarter and Gavin Recor kicked through the extra point to make it 28-7 at the time.

Greenville 52, Headland 22: Kameron Sconiers had two rushing touchdowns for Headland in the Class 5A, Region 2 loss on the road.

Ashton Trammel also had a rushing score for Headland.

The Rams fell to 2-3 overall and 0-3 in region play. Greenville improved to 3-2 and 1-2.

Straughn 28, Geneva 7: The Panthers' lone score came on a 6-yard run from Dalton Mock.

Mock also caught three passes for 100 yards. Tanner Sizemore was 7-of-23 passing for 136 yards.

Defensively for Geneva, Walker Ward had eight tackles, while Cam McKnight and J.J. King each had five.

Opp 39, Daleville 0: Justice Baldwin passed for 350 yards on 18-of-22 completions with four touchdowns, all in the first half, in leading the Bobcats (4-0, 3-0) to the victory.

Kal Crittenden had six catches for 154 yards with touchdowns of 36 and 39 yards and DJ Hines had six catches for 148 yards and TDs of 35 and 39 yards.

Matthew Morgan had nine carries for 79 yards and Baldwin added a 2-yard TD run.

Defensively, Jaymaryon Allen had nine tackles, including a sack. Grady Patterson had six tackles, AJ Smallwood had five tackles, Matthew Morgan had four tackles and one interception and Clay Jackson, Cash Harrell and Javion Stoudemire each had four tackles.

Dalton Jordan rushed for 131 yards and four touchdowns on 10 carries with the TDs covering 3, 30, 5 and 6 yards. Dawson Bradford threw for 164 yards off 8-of-11 passing and three touchdowns – a 37 yarder to Jackson Mitchell and 40 yarder and a 12-yard to Sawyer Keck.

Jackson Bowen had a fumble return of 5 yards for a touchdown and Mitchell had an 85-yard kick return for a touchdown.

Nathan Jeffcoat led the defense with seven tackles.

Houston County 34, Abbeville 28: Kendrick Carter rushed for 202 yards and a touchdown but it wasn't enough for Abbeville in a Class 2A, Region 2 loss to Houston County.

Ahmod Billins threw for 103 yards off 6-of-15 passing with a touchdown and Alec Spann had four catches for 100 yards. Drashon Bussey added a rushing touchdown for Abbeville.

Houston County improved to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in region play, while Abbeville dropped to 0-5 and 0-3.

Early County (Ga.) 40, Terrell County 0: Early County scored on all four first-half possessions in building a big lead on way to a 40-0 win over Terrell County in a Georgia Region 1-A, Division II game.

Evan Grist scored on a 33-yard run and Eddie Stapleton on a 6-yard run in the first quarter as the Bobcats went up 15-0 in the first quarter as Charles Williams converted an extra-point kick and Jamarion Price scored on a two-point conversion.

Grist added a 5-yard TD run and Price caught a 33-yard TD pass from Grist as Early County went up 27-0 at halftime after both conversions were no good.

The Bobcats (3-2, 2-0) posted their final two scores in the third quarter on a 23-yard pass from Grist to Jalen Mays and a 24-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Stapleton.

Kobe Lingo rushed for 50 yards on three carries, Grist for 49 yards on five carries and Stapleton for 42 yards on five carries.

Grist completed 4-of-6 passing for 61 yards with two TDs.

Defensively, Stapelton had four solo tackles, one assisted tackle, two tackles for losses and a fumble recovery for a TD. Devonis Lee had six solo stops with two for losses and Chase Harris had five tackles with one for a loss. JaQuavian Jones and Chandler Means both five solo tackles.

Ahmari McClendon had an interception.

In other results, Charles Henderson fell to No. 2 ranked Montgomery Catholic 63-6 in Class 5A, Region 2 action, Slocomb lost to No. 7 ranked Trinity in Class 4A, Region 2 play, Kinston was shut out by No. 8 Georgiana 48-0 in Class 1A, Region 2 and Abbeville Christian lost to Monroe Academy 45-7.

In AISA 8-man football, Lakeside defeated Meadowview Christian 65-22 and in Georgia, Seminole County lost to Florida's Gadsden County 60-7.
