Hot and dry weekend ahead

C.Nguyen56 min ago

Tonight: We will continue to stay dry tonight with clear skies as temperatures fall into the middle to upper 60s.

This Weekend: Temperatures continue to remain warm to borderline hot as we all reach the lower 90s both Saturday and Sunday. The good news is we will stay dry with plenty of sunshine. Slightly muggy air in place will allow for heat index values to reach the middle to possibly even upper 90s. However, this should not interfere with any football games taking place at Auburn, Miles College, and Jacksonville State on Saturday afternoon.

Looking Ahead: We'll start to cool off some heading into the middle of next week as the ridge of high pressure begins to break down. High temperatures will begin to gradually fall toward the middle 80s with dry weather continuing through Tuesday. By Wednesday – Friday, a shower or two can't be ruled out, but rain chances remain nearly negligible most of the week. The forecast for the second half of next week will depend on exactly what forms in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. For now, expect a gradual increase in cloud cover as we move toward Friday as upper-level moisture builds in across the region.

Tracking the Tropics: We're keeping an eye on the northwestern Caribbean for possible tropical development over the next seven days. Long-range model guidance suggests this will enter a favorable environment for organization, and it would likely move into the Gulf of Mexico by the end of next week, so it's something to keep an eye on for now.
