Humphry Slocombe, the beloved ice cream shop at 24th and Harrison, is closing its doors, according to an email sent out by owners on Friday morning.

The shop's last day will be Oct. 30, its owners wrote.

"Throughout COVID, we were able to keep all of our shops open thanks to the loyalty and support of all of you. We were especially proud of keeping our original shop at the Mission open to continue to serve our first neighborhood. However, all things must come to an end."

Humphry Slocombe — which is named after a duo in the British sitcom "Are You Being Served?" started in 2008 with a flagship location in the Mission and became known for serving up unusual flavors : "Vietnamese Coffee," "Pumpkin Galette," and "Secret Breakfast" are a few. Mission Local's 2021 review said the "Secret Breakfast" was "a delectable combination of vanilla, cornflakes, and bourbon. The presence of bourbon in a dessert was enough to make me feel like, so incredibly cool. "

The chain has nine other locations across the Bay Area including two in San Francisco in the Ferry Building and Dogpatch.

Its owners were not immediately available for comment.

This is a developing news story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
