Hundreds shoot fireworks in Nottingham incident
V.Davis32 min ago
A police investigation is under way after hundreds of people allegedly threw fireworks at each other and emergency service workers outside a Nottingham student accommodation block. Officers were called to Midland Way, Radford, at around 22:20 GMT on Tuesday after reports fireworks had also been launched at surrounding buildings and parked vehicles. Nottinghamshire Police said about 300 people were involved in the incident, with the group also throwing fireworks at fire engines which had been called to two large bins outside the building being on fire at 00:23 on Wednesday. No serious injuries or damage were reported and no arrests have yet been made, according to the force. Nottinghamshire Police said "multiple police units" were deployed to the incident, with fireworks being aimed at officers and other emergency service colleagues who responded. Officers said the crowds at Midland Way were dispersed but "further disorder" was later reported in the city centre, with fireworks being launched at officers. Police dispersed the crowds again, with no serious injuries being sustained. Ch Insp Mike Ebbins, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "I want to reassure the community that a thorough investigation is under way, and we are pursuing several lines of inquiry that will ensure that those responsible are tracked down, caught and dealt with. "We won't tolerate such appalling behaviour which puts people at risk of harm, including our officers and fellow blue light colleagues who were in attendance trying to keep people safe, and we'll seek to prosecute anyone involved. "There will be increased patrols in the affected areas tonight, providing reassurance for the public, as we continue with our investigation." The force is now appealing for witnesses with any information to come forward.
