I-90 eastbound reopened after crews clear early morning crash
UPDATE: PennDOT reported at 11:43 a.m. on Wednesday that I-90 eastbound has reopened after the tractor-trailer crash.
Girard, Pa. ( WJET/WFXP ) — Crews contain a hazmat situation after a semi-truck carrying diesel fuel flipped onto its side, causing some of the fuel to spill early this morning.
The accident was first reported at 5:40 a.m. for a semi that had flipped after striking the outside barrier of the bridge that carries I-90 over Creek Road in Girard Township along I-90 Eastbound around the 12-mile marker. When crews arrived, they discovered that the semi was carrying diesel fuel and that some had begun to leak, creating a hazmat situation.
At around 6:30 a.m., crews contained the leak and secured the spilled fuel. Crews have shut down I-90 eastbound from Exit 3 (Route 6N, West Springfield/Cherry Hill) to Exit 16 (Route 98, Fairview/Franklin Center).
According to Erie County 911, there are no known injuries and the driver was able to get out of the vehicle.
