I-DOT launches this year’s “Winter Weather – Get It Together” campaign

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — With the cold comes preparation and knowing how to keep you and your family safe.

Thursday, Illinois Transportation and Law Enforcement officials launched this year's "Winter Weather – Get It Together" campaign.

The campaign focuses on practicing safe driving during the winter time.

Anna Ghidina an operations engineer for Illinois Department of Transportation shares tips on how to prepare for a winter emergency.

"Making sure your cell phones are fully charged in your vehicle If you have a blanket, bring coats, just in case something were to happen," she said. "Also, when you're driving, please make sure that you're not on your cell phone."

Nick McMillion, communication specialist for the city of Peoria department of Public Works, details what they are doing for winter weather preparation all year.

"Snow removal and snow season is kind of a year round operation for us in the Department of Public Works," said McMillion. "Whether it's one hundred degrees or negative twenty outside, we're always thinking about snow, how we're going to tackle it, how we're going to treat it, how we are going to get the roads in the best possible shape."
