TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — An infant was found dead Friday afternoon at a Florida middle school after a relative forgot to drop the child off at daycare, according to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were called to South Sumter Middle School at about 4 p.m. for a dead baby.
Deputies said a 15-month-old child was with a relative and was supposed to be dropped off at daycare. The relative forgot the child was in the car and went to school without dropping the child off.
The child was found dead in the parked car later in the day.
"This is a tragic situation and our hearts go out to the family of the child," deputies wrote in a Facebook post.
The investigation remains ongoing. No other details were immediately available.
