Football Injuries, roster moves: Colts downgrade Anthony Richardson to doubtful

Veteran Joe Flacco is in line to start Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars after the Indianapolis Colts downgraded fellow quarterback Anthony Richardson to doubtful.

Richardson was a limited participant in practice all week after sustaining an oblique injury in the Colts' 27-24 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday.

Flacco replaced Richardson and completed 16 of 26 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns to preserve the win.

Also on Saturday, the Colts (2-2) downgraded Ryan Kelly (neck) to doubtful to face the Jaguars (0-4) and added cornerback Samuel Womack to the injury report with an illness. He is questionable.

Cowboys place WR Brandin Cooks (knee) on IR

The Dallas Cowboys placed wide receiver Brandin Cooks on injured reserve Saturday due to a knee issue.

The infection followed a medical procedure Cooks had on the knee while remaining in New York after the Cowboys' 20-15 victory over the Giants on Sept. 26.

The move will sideline Cooks for the next four games. He will be eligible to return for Dallas' game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 10 in Arlington, Texas.

Wideouts Jalen Tolbert, KaVontae Turpin and Jalen Brooks will look to pick up the slack for the Cowboys (2-2) opposite star CeeDee Lamb.

Cooks has nine receptions on 19 targets for 91 yards and one touchdown in starting all four games this season.

He caught 54 passes for 657 yards and eight touchdowns in 16 games (15 starts) in his first season with Dallas in 2023.

Packers suspend WR Romeo Doubs

The Green Bay Packers suspended starting wide receiver Romeo Doubs for one game for conduct detrimental to the team and he will miss the game Sunday against the host Los Angeles Rams, the team announced Saturday.

Doubs missed practices Thursday and Friday with the team's explanation as personal reasons. He was listed as doubtful for the game against the Rams (1-3) before the Packers (2-2) placed him on the reserve/suspended list.

"Unfortunately, we had to make the difficult decision to suspend Romeo for this week's game," Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said on the team's website. "His decisions and actions during the week negatively impacted the team and required us to take this action. While we are certainly disappointed, we are confident that we will be able to move forward in a positive manner. Romeo is a valuable member of our team and we look forward to welcoming him back next week."

ESPN reported that Doubs was not absent because of an injury or a family matter. Sports Illustrated reported that he was unhappy with his use in the passing game.

Doubs, 24, has 12 receptions on 20 targets for 169 yards in starting all four games this season.

Doubs figured to get more opportunities on Sunday with starting wide receiver Christian Watson missing practice this week and doubtful for the game because of a left ankle sprain sustained in the loss last Sunday to Minnesota.

Only teammates Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks, with 22 each, have more targets than Doubs' 20. Watson has eight. Doubs had a team-high 96 targets in 2023.
