Investigators Eye 35-Year Concord Disappearance, Death Of David Braley
CONCORD, NH — For the past 14 months, Concord police and the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office have been reexamining the disappearance and death of a Belmont man in Concord in November 1989 and are now asking for more witnesses to come forward .
David Braley, 21, was last seen near the Take 5 Music Hall nightclub on Garvins Falls Road on Nov. 10, 1989 . His body was found on March 18, 1990, in the Merrimack River in Manchester. Investigators surmised he was beaten somewhere in the area of Manchester Street and dumped in the river .
On Friday, the attorney general's office released updated information stating police and investigators had been reexamining Braley's " suspicious death ," including "a renewed investigative review ," while "exploring opportunities to leverage modern-day advancements in forensic technology." The unit investigators said in a statement the state's medical examiner and outside forensic experts are part of this re-examination.
The state said there were "several conflicting and contradictory stories" in the community when Braley disappeared. Investigators believe there were witnesses to the incident who have never come forward but should, now, after 35 years, so they can solve the case.
"Whether those witnesses may have been afraid to speak with the police at the time or were concerned that police would not believe them because of certain stigmas at the time, the police encourage witnesses to reach out now," the statement said. "If you know what happened or have any information about this investigation — no matter how trivial it may seem to you — we ask that you, please come forward. Even the smallest observation could provide a crucial piece of the puzzle."
Braley's family has "been resolute in seeking justice for David," and they remain hopeful someone with firsthand knowledge will come forward and assist in the investigation.
"The family would be forever grateful for any information to help bring them peace, closure, and comfort," the family said in a statement. "Please be that person to come forward for David and his Family."
