BOCES students honor veterans with annual drive-in parade
Elmira, N.Y. ( WETM ) — Students at the GST BOCES campus showed their appreciation to veterans for their service with a drive-in parade.
The veterans arrived in a sheriff's escort where students applauded them as they came through. At the end of the greeting, take-home meals were handed to each veteran provided by the students, who also gave them handcrafted poppy flowers and art pictures.
Veteran Mark Phorman of the United States Marine Corps who was in the parade, felt moved by the support and gestures from the students who attended.

"You don't really see too many people come out and do anything for the veterans and when you see people like this that have come out and wave to you, and they give you a meal, and then you've had the National Guard come out here, and it got me teary-eyed," said Phorman.
Student Cameron Williams said, "It's really good to pack up lunches, to enjoy a good meal that we give them. That's how we honor the veterans." Mackenzie Stein added "To see all the veterans, it puts a smile on their face and my face."
The 249th birthday of the United States Marine Corps will be on Sunday, Nov, 10.
