Jeep leads troopers, chopper on I-10 chase before being stopped at Tempe home, AZ DPS says
A Jeep that was flashing emergency lights led authorities on an early Saturday morning chase that started on Interstate 10 and ended at a Tempe home, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
At 2:02 a.m. eastbound on I-10 at milepost 138 in Phoenix, a state trooper tried pulling over a red Jeep Trailhawk on the HOV lane for speeding and using red and blue emergency lights, according to DPS. The Jeep did not stop and was pursued by the trooper, who was joined by a Phoenix police helicopter, DPS said.
While the chopper was in pursuit, ground units stopped following the Jeep before it eventually pulled into a Tempe home, according to DPS. As the Jeep tried fleeing, a trooper launched a grappling device that stopped the vehicle, DPS added.
The Jeep driver and passengers were taken into custody, including one passenger who tried fleeing on foot, DPS. said. The driver was jailed on suspicion of unlawful flight and a passenger who was on probation was booked on residential trespassing charges, according to DPS.
