Ipswich bauble Christmas tree will not return after storm damage

An artistic LED interpretation of a Christmas tree that was damaged in a storm last winter will not return this festive season.

Ipswich's "bauble tree" was originally unveiled on Cornhill in 2012 before it was moved to the Waterfront in 2017.

In January it was blown over from its spot next to the University of Suffolk during Storm Henk.

Jane Riley, portfolio holder for culture and customers at Ipswich Borough Council, said it was "damaged beyond repair" and would not return for the upcoming festive period, as first reported by the Ipswich Star .

"The bauble tree was a popular feature on the waterfront, but sadly it was damaged beyond repair in last winter's storms," she said.

"Our focus will be on the town centre, with our Christmas lights switch-on taking place on the 17th November."

The tree sculpture was made of 41 aluminium spheres and divided opinion when it was first unveiled.
