Jennifer Garner gets real about not always being able to remain positive.

The 13 Going on 30 star opened up during the Tuesday, November 12 episode of the Lipstick on the Rim podcast, with hosts Molly Sims and her best friend Emese Gormley. When the co-hosts asked how Garner stays so positive, she admitted, "Molly, of all people, you know better than anyone that I don't all the time."

The 52-year-old then recalled a time she showed up to Sims' house for a party feeling less than her best. "... I remember you throwing a party and I — I walked in and I just was not ready to be around people for whatever I was going through at the time," Garner shared. "And I got super, super weepy and emotional, and you just stopped and helped me and said, 'What do you need to do?'"

The Family Switch actress credited Sims, 51, for how perfectly she responded to the breakdown. "And I said, 'I think I should go home,' and you were like, 'Okay, great. Let me walk you to your car,'" Garner explained, adding, "And you gave me a big hug, and you sent me on my way. And that was exactly [it]."

The mom-of-three seemed to take from that situation that "we need each other, and we also need to be able to give ourselves and each other permission to be where we are." She also encouraged everyone to give themselves grace when they are feeling down. "We have to allow ourselves to not be perfect all the time, to not be in the mood all the time, to not be smiley," she shared.

The podcast episode comes a couple weeks after Garner recreated one of her famously upbeat characters for Halloween — Jenna Rink from 13 Going on 30. She shared a video of herself getting ready that mirrored the scene in the 2004 film where grown-up Jenna prepares for the Poise Magazine party — with a few changes reflecting the amount of time that has passed.

For example, rather than applying glitter eyeshadow like in the movie, Garner — who shares children Violet Ann, 18, Fin, 15, and Samuel, 12, with ex Ben Affleck — opted for some retinol regenerating cream. She also traded Jenna's heels for a pair of bright pink sneakers.

Fans loved the throwback, praising the star while also sharing quotes from the film, like, "Thirty, Flirty, and Thriving." Some even questioned how the well-liked film hasn't received a sequel.

Media personality Perez Hilton noted how much Garner clearly loved the character, asking, "Why haven't we gotten a sequel?"
