Mexican restaurant Tortilla Ranch has closed its Mission location.

The lights are off and doors are locked at the restaurant at 6029 Metcalf Ave. Its address has also been taken off Tortilla Ranch's website. An employee told The Star the location closed about a month ago.

"After much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close our Mission location permanently," a sign on the door reads. "We are deeply grateful for your support and loyalty over the years."

Management could not be immediately reached Wednesday.

Tortilla Ranch's original Overland Park location , 8617 College Blvd., will remain open. Ed Gieselman, founder of local Mexican chains Jose Pepper's and Cactus Grill , opened the restaurant with Ed Brownell in 2014.

The duo sought to create a modern, fast-casual concept offering made-to-order burritos, margaritas, enchiladas and more. Customers order and pick up their food at the front counter, rather than being waited on.

At the time, management told The Star they were hoping to eventually expand the restaurant.

"The goal is to see if we can create a concept that people like and we can maintain the freshness of the food," Brownell said.

The Mission location opened in November 2022.

Jose Pepper's , on the other hand, has nine locations in the Kansas City area. Five of those are in Johnson County.
