Juventus vs Stuttgart: UEFA Champions League - BBC Sport

This is the first ever meeting between Juventus and Stuttgart in any competition.

Stuttgart have won just one of their 11 major European games against Italian opposition (D4 L6), winning 1-0 against Torino in the UEFA Cup in September 1979.

Juventus have won each of their last five major European games against German sides (all since 2019-20), which is already their best winning run against such opposition. Indeed, their last game in the UEFA Champions League was a 3-2 victory away to RB Leipzig. 

After winning their opening two games, Juventus will be looking to win their first three games of a UEFA Champions League campaign for the first time since 2021-22. Meanwhile, only once previously have they won their opening three and scored 3+ goals in each match (1995-96).

Stuttgart have only won three of their last 19 games in the UEFA Champions League (D6 L10), having won four in a row immediately prior to this run in October-November 2003.

Thiago Motta could become just the third Juventus manager to win his first three UEFA Champions League games, after Fabio Capello in 2004-05 (first five, excluding qualifying phase) and Marcelo Lippi in 1995-96 (first four).

Only Bayern Munich (69.9%) and Manchester City (67.6%) have averaged more possession than Stuttgart (65%) in the UEFA Champions League this season. Indeed, the German sideâ€TMs average of 76.5% against Sparta Prague last time out was the highest of any team in a single game in the competition this term.

Both of Stuttgartâ€TMs goals in the UEFA Champions League 2024-25 have been scored via headers (2/2), while they also rank joint-first for most headed shots (excl. blocks) in the tournament so far this term (8 â€" level with Manchester City).

Dusan Vlahovic has either scored (2) or assisted (2) in each of his last three UEFA Champions League appearances. The last Juventus striker to do so in four consecutive appearances in the competition was Cristiano Ronaldo between August and December 2020 (five in a row).

No player has made more passes breaking the oppositionâ€TMs defensive line than Stuttgartâ€TMs Jamie Leweling (5) in the UEFA Champions League this season. However, heâ€TMs had the joint-most shots without scoring of any player in the competition so far this term (8 â€" level with Achraf Hakimi and Ousmane Dembélé).
