Keep Bakersfield Beautiful hosts river clean-up day

To help reduce waterway pollution in Bakersfield, the group Keep Bakersfield Beautiful invited volunteers for a Truxton Lake clean-up day on Sept. 21, 2024, from 8 to 10 a.m.

Volunteers met at the Northwest corner of Truxton Avenue and Commercial Way.

The meet-up consisted of picking up trash near the Kern River and Truxton Lake to help protect local waterways from pollution.

The group explains that this is just a small effort in a nationwide operation to keep all waterways clean.

"Overall the 40th anniversary coastal clean-up project nationwide," said committee member of Keep Bakersfield Beautiful Heather Pennella, "This is the ninth time Keep Bakersfield Beautiful has participated in the coastal clean-up, so what's better than to keep up Bakersfield's coast front than Truxtun lake."

Keep Bakersfield Beautiful also said that they hope to do more river clean-ups throughout the year.
