John McCoy/ Dalton Knecht might be a rookie in the NBA, but he has already learned his primary objective when Los Angeles Lakers teammate LeBron James is on a heater.

"I mean it's LeBron, nothing new," Knecht told reporters after a 104-99 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. "... He's a guy that wants the ball at the end of the game to hits those shots, so we should get out of his way and let him do LeBron."

James had 21 points, seven rebounds, five assists and one steal on the night. By his usual standards, the four-time MVP's scoring output wasn't all that noteworthy.

LeBron did have 11 points in the fourth quarter, though, and he hit a pair of clutch buckets. His long-range jumper put the Lakers up 98-97 inside the final two minutes and he followed with another three to give L.A. more breathing room with 37.1 seconds on the clock.

Knecht enjoyed his best performance as an NBA player so far. He had 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting, knocking down five treys.

Anthony Davis was once again magnificent, too, posting a team-high 31 points along with 14 rebounds.

When it mattered the most, though, Knecht and Davis were willing to let James cook.

The Lakers are now riding a five-game winning streak. During this run, LeBron is averaging seven points on 52 percent shooting in the fourth quarter, per NBA.com .

The 39-year-old can't dominate with the regularity he once did, yet he's still capable of taking a game over down the home stretch.
