Las Vegas Veterans Day parade honors nation’s heroes
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Las Vegas Veterans Day Parade will take place in the streets of Downtown Las Vegas to honor and celebrate those who have served in the military.
The annual celebration, presented by the Veterans Action Group, is known as the biggest Veterans Day Parade west of the Mississippi.
"Veterans Day Parade is a long-standing tradition all the way back to World War I when it was called Armistice Day," Dick Keller, director of communications for Veterans Action Group, said. "It's a chance for everybody to come out and celebrate our Veterans. For the kids, it's all about what we call 'generational continuity' – this is for kids... to learn about history, learn about veterans, and appreciate the sacrifices that our men and women in uniform have made for us."
The parade will showcase over 140 entries, including local marching bands, ROTC units, historic military vehicles, dance and hula troupes, dignitaries, and more, all making their way down 4th Street.
The festivities will begin at 10 a.m. at 4th and Garces, with two flyovers by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Army National Guard.
Those who can not attend in person can listen to the parade and livestream it through the Veterans Action Group Facebook page .
