Late Tuesday evening weather update: Few storms still possible, severe threat lowers

A.Walker3 days ago

The severe thunderstorm watch that had been issued for parts of the area was canceled earlier Tuesday evening as thunderstorms were quick to develop outside of the immediate viewing area. Those storms, however, produced quite the light show with nearly constant lightning throughout the evening!

The storms that formed along I-80 continue to sink south, but storms that were near Davenport, IA have now moved into the area. The severe threat for Tuesday night remains low with the slight risk shifting a bit further to our southeast. However, a few embedded strong wind gusts of 50 mph remain possible. Additionally, an outflow boundary moving north into northern Illinois will also be capable of producing 40 mph wind gusts as it passes.

These storms will last through early Wednesday with fog developing for some around sunrise. A stalled boundary Wednesday afternoon will allow a few scattered thunderstorms to develop, however, higher coverage looks to be just to our south.
