Lebanon man arrested for reckless driving on Route 2
LEBANON — A man from Lebanon was arrested Tuesday night when a Trooper on Route 2 in Lebanon observed a gray Hyundai Elantra traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed.
The incident happened at approximately 6:45 p.m., and when the Trooper observed the vehicle speeding, they attempted to catch up to the vehicle.
While doing so, the Trooper observed the vehicle weaving aggressively through traffic with speeds between 120 to 130 mph in a posted 65 mph zone.
The vehicle's operator was later identified as Kodi James Vining, 20, of Lebanon.
The Trooper saw the vehicle exit the highway off the exit 23 off-ramp in Bozrah. When the Trooper continued to catch up to the car, they observed the Hyundai make a right turn onto Haughton Road, reaching up to 75 mph in a posted 30 mph zone.
The vehicle then turned onto Fitchville Road, maintaining a speed of 60 to 65 mph in a posted 35 mph zone.
At this time, the Trooper caught up to Vining and initiated a traffic stop. Vining complied and pulled over on Fitchville Road.
According to State Police, when the Trooper interacted with Vining, he admitted to speeding and told the Trooper he was traveling at 122 mph.
As a result, Vining was placed under arrest and transported to Troop K for processing.
Vining was charged with reckless driving and reckless endangerment in the first degree.
Following arrest processing, Vining was released on a $2,000 bond and is scheduled for arraignment at Norwich Superior Court on Nov. 21.
