Lemont edges Notre Dame soccer in super-sectional, ends Irish season short of state
KANKAKEE, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Notre Dame's bid to make it to the state soccer finals in a third straight year falls short by one game.
Lemont outscored the Irish 7-6 in a 12-round penalty kick-tiebreaker to win the class 2A soccer super-sectional at Kankakee.
Notre Dame sophomore Braden Pinkston scored in the 67th minute to tie the match, 1-1. The Irish, winners of the 2022 state title and state runner-up last year, played without all-state forward Kayden Hudson who received two yellow cards in Saturday's sectional championship win over Washington and was disqualified for the game.
"We gave everything we had and that's the thing I'm most proud about with this group, especially the senior class. They've had great career," said Notre Dame head coach Mike Bare. "State championship as sophomores, state runner-up last year, sectional title this year. Very proud of the fight tonight. Battling a lot of obstacles and we just came up short."
