Lena Jane Nunes OBITUARY
Lena Jane Nunes passed peacefully at the age of 93 in her home surrounded by her loving children. Lena was an adored wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and neighbor. She led a life devoted to others, and cared deeply for people, near and far. Lena meant so much to so many. Her love lives on in the hearts of everyone who was blessed to know her.
Lena lived an extraordinary life. From a young age, she dedicated herself to the care and wellbeing of her family. At San Jose High School, Lena's competitive spirit shone through as a pitcher for their softball team. Lena met her husband, John, at a popular dance club. He was captivated by her beauty; it was widely known that Lena's incredible smile and unparalleled ability to connect with others brightened every room she was in. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on September 24, 2020.
Lena and John made their home and raised their family in San Jose, California. She was an exemplary homemaker and an undeniable leader in her workplaces, quickly earning promotions to supervisory positions. She and John lived a life of service in their community and were acknowledged with an award from the City of San Jose for their innumerable contributions.
Lena was a woman of tremendous piety and prayer, building community through her faith and establishing lifelong friendships that uplifted her through every stage of life. For decades, she was deeply involved in social service as a parishioner at Holy Cross and Five Wounds Catholic churches. She was a force in the Mothers Guild, working diligently, and successfully, on every fundraiser, raffle, and bingo night. Treasured memories were made each year at the Christmas toy drive Lena hosted in her home, bringing joy to many families in need. Lena cherished her beloved Holy Cross where she received all of her sacraments, including Baptism and Marriage, and where her funeral mass will be celebrated.
Lena is survived by her children Mary Jane Nunes-Temple (son-in-law James Temple), Sam Nunes (daughter-in-law Amy Nunes), and Ann Randolph; eight grandchildren Nicole, John, Chris, Jenny, Steven, Jessie, Julia, and Maya; six great-grandchildren Katherine, Andrew, Christopher, Namara, Jackson, and Logan; brother Anthony Arlotta; and sister-in-law Laura Nunes. Lena was pre-deceased by her husband John Nunes; son John Nunes; parents Sam Arlotta and Ann Arena; and sisters and brothers Mary Pulizzi, Annie Corini, Rosie Bockmon, Sam Arlotta, and Joe Arlotta.
