Letter: Vote for a sustainable future

It's October and temperatures are over 100. Hurricane Helene has left hundreds dead and thousands homeless, and Hurricane Kirk gathers strength from warm Atlantic waters. Homeowners' insurance premiums will rise dramatically or may be unavailable. Absent homeowners' insurance, banks will not make loans. This is just the beginning of what is to come. Climate change is a slowly unfolding disaster that will impact everyone causing, at best, dramatic price increases and at worst, environmental devastation and death.

Climate change is primarily caused by burning fossil fuels. We must stop doing so and the answer is certainly not "Drill, baby, Drill." That just makes the problem worse. We must stop burning fossil fuels and transition to clean energy from the sun, from waves, from wind, from the earth itself. We know how to do it! We just have to elect people who will act. The Arizona Corporation Commission has three candidates - Hill, Aguilar, and Polacheck - who are running to lead the transition. Please vote for them.
